CROSS-COUNTRY RUNNERS COMPETE IN NCAA REGIONAL MEET
Clinton, MS— Two University of
Mary Hardin-Baylor cross-country athletes competed in the NCAA South
Regional Meet in Clinton, Mississippi over the weekend. Junior
Jessica Greenman finished 41st individually with a time
of 20:16.47 in the 5K race. She posted the second fastest time of
any American Southwest Conference runner in the meet. Senior Kelly
Lee placed 89th with a time of 21:39.28. It was the first
time either runner had competed in the NCAA Regional Meet and they
both missed qualifying to advance to the NCAA Division III National
Meet. Greenman and Lee qualified for the regional meet by finishing
in the top ten at the American Southwest Conference Meet two weeks
ago.
Emory University’s Sarah Byrd won
the individual regional title with a time of 18:06.97. Emory
University also took the team championship with a total of 36.
Mississippi College and McMurry University were the two ASC teams to
compete. Mississippi College finished 15th with a total
of 375 and McMurry University took 18th place with a 454
total.

CROSS-COUNTRY TEAM FINISHES FOURTH AT ASC CONFERENCE MEET
Clinton, MS— The University of
Mary Hardin-Baylor women’s cross-country team finished fourth at
the American Southwest Conference Meet and placed two runners on the
All-Conference team. The win matches last season’s conference
finish for the Lady Crusaders and ties for UMHB’s highest ever
finish in the ASC meet. UMHB finished with a team total of 82, 31
behind ASC champ Mississippi College. McMurry University finished
second with a team total of 60 and Texas Lutheran University took
third with a 68 total.
UMHB junior Jessica Greenman ran a
20:25.45 to finish fourth individually and claim a spot on the ASC
All-Conference team. Senior Kelly Lee also nailed down an
All-Conference spot with a time of 21:13.37 to finish ninth.
UMHB’s Esther Gil ran a 21:33.81 to finish 12th,
Jackilyn Michell ran 23:15.04 to finish 26th and Cherish
Spencer clocked a 24:12.21 to finish 32nd. Mississippi
College’s Nicole Holifield won the individual title with a time of
19:07.64 in the 5K run.
On the men’s side, Jessie George
ran a 31:02.71 to finish 29th in the 8K race. He was the
only runner for the Crusaders in the meet. Mississippi College’s
Justin Jernigan won the individual title with a time of 26:55.38 and
the Choctaws also took the team championship with a team total of
20. McMurry University finished second with a 42 team total.

CROSS COUNTRY CLOSES OUT REGULAR SEASON AT SOUTHWEST TEXAS MEET
San Marcos, TX— The University
of Mary Hardin-Baylor cross-country team closed out the regular
season with a seventh place finish at the Southwest Texas State
short-course meet in San Marcos on Friday evening. The Lady
Crusaders finished ahead of ASC rivals Texas Lutheran and McMurry in
the meet.
Jessica Greenman posted the fastest
time for UMHB in the two-mile women’s race. Greenman ran a 12:45.
Kelly Lee ran a 13:36 for the UMHB women, Esther Gil ran a 13:53,
Jackilyn Michel ran a 14:12, Megan Foster posted a time of 14:13 and
Cherish Spencer ran a 16:09. On the men’s side, Jessie George ran
a 17:59 in the three-mile race.
The UMHB cross-country teams will
head to Clinton, Mississippi for the American Southwest Conference
Meet next Saturday. Defending ASC champ Mississippi College will
host the meet. The UMHB women finished fourth in the conference meet
last year.

CROSS-COUNTRY ATHLETE EARNS CONFERENCE HONORS
Belton,
TX-- University of Mary Hardin-Baylor cross-country athlete Jessica
Greenman has been named American Southwest Conference Female Runner
of the Week for the week ending October 7th. Greenman, a
junior from Leander High School, ran a season best 19:45 in the 5K
at the Southwest Texas State Classic over the weekend. Greenman beat
several Division I runners in the meet and she finished 23rd
overall in the meet. Greenman’s time was also the 4th
best 5K in the ASC this season.
The UMHB cross-country team will
take this weekend off before returning to San Marcos for another
meet hosted by Southwest Texas State on October 20th. The
UMHB cross-country teams will then close out the 2001 season with a
trip to the American Southwest Conference Meet in Clinton,
Mississippi on October 27th.

CROSS COUNTRY RUNS IN SOUTHWEST TEXAS MEET
San Marcos, TX—For the second
straight week, the UMHB women’s cross-country team posted a flurry
of personal best times as the Lady Crusaders ran in a meet hosted by
Southwest Texas State University in San Marcos.
Junior Jessica Greenman finished 23rd
in a field made up of NCAA Division I, D-II and D-III runners.
Greenman ran a 19:46 for UMHB. Kelly Lee was 35th with a
20:58, Esther Gil was 47th with a 22:22, Jackilyn Michel
was 51st with a 23:04 and Cherish Spencer ran a 24:11 to
finish 55th. The UMHB men did run in this meet.
The UMHB cross-country teams will
take next weekend off before running in another meet hosted by
Southwest Texas State on October 19th. That meet will be
the final tune-up for the Lady Crusaders and Crusaders before the
American Southwest Conference meet on October 27th.

CROSS-COUNTRY TEAMS RUN WELL AT TRINITY UNIVERSITY MEET
San Antonio, TX—The University
of Mary Hardin-Baylor men’s and women’s cross-country teams
posted several personal best times at a meet hosted by Trinity
University today. The meet is being called the Texas State Division
III Meet and every NCAA Division III cross-country team in the state
of Texas participated. The Lady Crusaders finished 5th
among D-III schools with a team score of 109. Trinity University won
the D-II bracket with a team score of 32.
UMHB was led by Jessica Greenman
(Jr., Leander), who finished seventh in the Division III bracket and
18th overall with a time of 19:56.7 in the 5K race. Kelly
Lee (Sr., Comanche) ran a 21:50.7 for the Lady Crusaders, Megan
Foster (Jr., Marble Falls) ran a 22:02.7, Esther Gill (Fr., Austin)
ran a 23:22.5, Jackilyn Michele (Fr., Marble Falls) ran a 23:42.0
and Cherish Spencer (Fr., Huntsville) ran a 24:47.3 All of those
times are personal bests for the Lady Crusaders.
On the men’s side, Joey Morgan
(Jr., Valley Mills) ran in his first meet of the season for the
Crusaders and posted a time of 31:39.3 in the men’s 8K race. He
was the only runner to compete for the Crusaders.
The UMHB cross-country teams will
head to San Marcos next Saturday for their next meet. The Crusaders
and Lady Crusaders will run in a meet hosted by Southwest Texas
State University.

CROSS-COUNTRY TEAMS RUN WELL AT BAYLOR UNIVERSITY MEET
Waco, TX—The University of Mary
Hardin-Baylor men’s and women’s cross-country teams both posted
solid times in the Baylor University cross-country meet in Waco on
Saturday. The UMHB women finished 13th as a team, as they
competed against several NCAA Division I teams.
Jessica Greenman posted the best
individual finish for the Lady Crusaders in the 5K race. Greenman
ran a 21:14.50 to finish 53rd. Kelly Lee ran a 23:02.90
to finish 71st. Olivia Jackson ran 24:26.10 to finish 75th,
while Esther Gill ran a 26:08.80 to finish 79th, one
place ahead of teammate Cherish Spencer, who ran a 26:41.20.
On the men’s side, Jessie George
ran a 33:54.00 in the five mile race. He was the lone runner for the
Crusaders in the meet.
The
UMHB cross-country teams head to San Antonio to run in a meet hosted
by Trinity University next Saturday

CROSS-COUNTRY MEET CANCELLED
Belton, TX—The University of
Texas has cancelled the cross-country meet it was scheduled to host
the Saturday because of the tragic events of September 11th.
The UMHB men’s and women’s cross-country teams were scheduled to
compete in that meet. The meet will not be rescheduled. The UMHB
cross-country teams will return to action on September 22nd,
when they run in a meet in Waco hosted by Baylor University.

CROSS COUNTRY RUNS WELL IN SOUTHWESTERN MEET
Georgetown, TX—The University
of Mary Hardin-Baylor women’s and men’s cross-country teams got
the season off on the right foot with a solid start at a meet hosted
by Southwestern University on Saturday. The UMHB women placed three
runners in the top 45, and UMHB’s lone male runner also posted a
solid finish.
On the women’s side,
junior Jessica Greenman posted the best finish for the Lady
Crusaders. Greenman ran a 21:47.50 to take 16th place
overall. Senior Kelly Lee ran a 24:31.20 to finish in 32nd
place and freshman Cherish Spencer ran a 28:46.50 to take 44th
place in her first collegiate meet.
On the men’s side,
Jessie George was the lone runner for the Crusaders. He ran a
26:50.10 and finished in 38th place individually.
The UMHB cross-country
teams will return to action next Saturday. UMHB will run in Austin
in a meet hosted by the University of Texas.
UMHB CROSS-COUNTRY RUNNERS EARN ALL-CONFERENCE HONORS
Belton,
TX-- The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor cross-country team placed
one runner on the ASC All-Conference Team this season. The Lady
Crusaders also placed two members on the 2000 American Southwest
Conference Academic All-Conference team released today.
Jessica Greenman, a sophomore from
Leander High School, earned a spot on the All-Conference team based
on her second place finish at the American Southwest Conference Meet
in Longview. Greenman ran a season-best time of 20:15 and finished
just 46 seconds behind the individual winner. It was also the best
individual finish for a Lady Crusader at the conference meet in at
least the last three years.
Greenman also earned a spot on the
Academic All-Conference Team, where she was joined by UMHB teammate
Kelly Lee. Greenman carries a 3.04 GPA as an exercise and sports
science major. She posted the top individual finish for the Lady
Crusaders in every meet this fall. Kelly Lee, a junior from Comanche
High School, maintains a 3.63 GPA as an elementary education major.
Lee also ran well this season, capping the year with a season best
time of 22:00 at the ASC Meet. She finished 11th
individually at the conference meet and narrowly missed a spot on
the All-Conference Team.
To qualify for the Academic
All-Conference team, you must be a sophomore, junior, or senior,
carry at least a 3.0 GPA, and compete in at least 50 per cent of the
team's contests.
The UMHB cross-country team
finished fourth at the American Southwest Conference Meet this
season. Greenman and Lee both qualified for the NCAA Regional Meet
in Newport News, Virginia, but did not run in the regionals.

women’s Cross-Country finishes fourth at ASC Conference Meet
Longview, TX --- The UMHB
women’s cross-country team finished fourth at the American
Southwest Conference meet in Longview on Saturday. The Lady
Crusaders posted their best team finish since joining the ASC. The
women were led by Jessica Greenman, who finished second individually
with a season-best time of 20:15. Kelly Lee finished 11th
with a time of 22:00, Jessica Pennington was 22nd with a
22:57, Beth Lisenbe ran a 23:17 to finish 24th and Tanya
Johnson ran 24:40 to finish 35th. On the men’s side,
Mateo Calvillo ran a 31:12 to finish 25th as the only
Crusader running in the men’s meet.
The Lady Crusaders finished with a
team score of 86 and were only four points behind the third-place
team from University of Dallas. Mississippi College won the
women’s meet with a team score of 32. McMurry University won the
men’s meet with a team score of 19.
UMHB Women finish Fifth at Trinity University
Meet
San
Antonio, TX -- The UMHB women's cross country team finished 5th in
the Trinity Invitational run at Fort Sam Houston last weekend. The
Lady Crusaders finished with 117 points and beat out conference
rival University of Dallas. Jessica Greenman had the top individual
finish for UMHB, placing 5th with a time of 21:00. Kelly Lee
(pictured), ran a 23:16 to finish 19th. Tanya Johnson placed 32nd
with a time of 24:55, Jessica Pennington ran a 25:04 to place 33rd
and Beth Lisenbe finished 41st with a time of 25:51.
On
the men's side, Mateo Calvillo ran a 32:08 to finish 22nd in the
men's 8K race. Calvillo was running in just his second meet of the
season for the Crusaders. UMHB will head to San Marcos for a meet
hosted by Southwest Texas State this Saturday. The San Marcos meet
will be UMHB's final tune-up before the American Southwest
Conference meet in Longview.
